Brief History of Ballet

The first ballet was performed on October 15, 1581, in a large room of the Petit-Bourbon at the Louvre, on the occasion of the marriage of the Duke of Joyeuse, a favorite of Henri III, with the Mademoiselle of Vaudemont, sister of the Queen Louise of Lorraine. The show was a realization of the dream of Baif, a merger of all arts: music, poetry, painting, and dance. It was a show of the magnificence and splendor of the monarchies of Europe at their peak. At that very moment, the ballet was born which developed beyond the scope of royal ceremonies and withstood to the present day.
